Today, Congress Party President filed nomination from Kerala’s Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency for General Elections 2019.
Rahul Gandhi will contest election from Wayanad as well as from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.
Rahul has been representing in Amethi since 2004 where the party has a very strong-hold.
Smriti Irani reacted this and said that it is an insult of Amethi and people will not tolerate this.
This will be the second attempt by Irani to wrest Amethi from the Congress. In 2014, she lost the seat by a margin of over one lakh votes to Gandhi.
Many BJP leaders also say that Rahul is unsure of the prospects in Amethi and that is why he is running away.
However, Along with sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, he headed to district collectorate office in Kalpetta.
He submitted the papers before the district collector A R Ajayakumar at the district headquarters.
After the filing of nomination, he held a roadshow as well.
Today itself, A NDA candidate also filed nomination against Rahul Gandhi from Wayanad Seat.
Congress said the reason for selecting Wayanad is its geographical significance
The party expects to win seats in South India after Rahul Gandhi files nomination.
From Wayanad Seat, the Congress party won in both 2009 and 2014 lok sabha elections.
Wayanad will vote on April 23th and Amethi on May 6th.
